Nov. 22nd, 2009 01:28 pmBut lo and behold- last night they were settled and calm, content to sleep the entire night. I was more than willing to do the same, and be bright eyed and bushy tailed for work.
I was halfway to the land of Nod (Around 1:00am. Far later/earlier than intended, mind you), when my subconscious picked up a faint ringing. The phone.
A ringing phone at 1:00am could only mean one thing.
Grandma died.
Dad thought i was asleep, and didn't want to wake me to tell me. (Mom would have, but mom was in NY.) Instead, i remained awake because my stomach was twisted in knots, and Dad was clearly upset. my parents bedroom is above mine, so all i could hear was him pacing back and forth, muffled talking, what sounded like possible gagging, dad coming downstairs, opening the sliding door to go smoke. Come back inside, sliding door again. Upstairs, downstairs. Fridge opening, fridge closing. Front door open, front door shut. Car door. Coughing. Rinse and repeat.
This must have lasted for over an hour...and i may have gotten to sleep by 2:30/3:00, to wake up at 5:00 to take my meds, and sleep for another hour.
Dad came into my room to tell me the news around 6:30. I was already up and dressed. Informed him i knew. Hugged him for about a minute, offered to ride my bike to work because he had to start making arrangements. But he drove me.
Worked. Went to IHOP on a break with dad in Grandma's honor (She loved IHOP).
Back to work. Returned home to make flight arrangements. Paid for my flight (A whopping 40 cents- thank you miles). Two different flights for me and dad, since i'm coming home Wednesday so i can work. Went to pay for Dad's flight...didn't have the money. He couldn't find his charge card (Well, mom's, really) so he'd been using mine.
Checked bank of america- my debit balance had gone from $600+ to $86 from him 'borrowing' it. I think part of me broke then. Cue anger (Understandable, but the timing sucked), so i kept my trap shut. Found the charge card on the driver's seat in Dad's car. He'd been looking all over, for days for the card, apparently. Anyhoo. Sigh.
Leaving tomorrow for NY. Coming back Wednesday. Mom's staying with family. Dad's coming home Thursday. Apparently, he didn't want me spending Thanksgiving alone.
Have to go try on funeral attire, now. Lost track of what i was going to write
